چکیده

Aim: The aim of the study was to describe Doppler ultrasonography and computed tomography findings that should be considered in diagnosis treatment congenital portosystemic shunts. Methods: Archive retrospectively scanned. In consideration shunts: communication type aneurysm were defined. Additional imaging modalities utilized. Results: 11 patients included study. ages ranged from 0 158 months. There two with shunt connecting segment-4 portal vein - middle hepatic vein, segment-3 left – renal -inferior vena cava, one patient perirectal venous plexus. Conclusion: Some classifications used shunts are insufficient guiding treatment. Elaborate definition including involved vessels, communication, presence or dilated vessels is prime importance for tailoring clinical management patients.

Imaging of Congenital Portosystemic Shunts

T he normal portal vascular system transports venous blood from the stomach, intestines, spleen, and pancreas to the hepatic sinusoids and ultimately the hepatic veins and caudal vena cava. Portosystemic shunting (PSS) occurs when abnormal vascular connections occur between the portal and systemic venous systems, bypassing the liver. This can be acquired secondary to portal hypertension arising...

Congenital portosystemic shunts in children: recognition, evaluation, and management.

Congenital portosystemic shunts are present in one in 30,000 children. Among the associated risks of severe complications are neonatal cholestasis, benign and malignant liver tumors, hepatopulmonary syndrome, portopulmonary hypertension, and encephalopathy. They can be detected on prenatal ultrasonograms, during the investigation of a positive galactosemia screening test in neonates or of a com...

Portosystemic shunts in dogs and cats: definition, epidemiology and clinical signs of congenital portosystemic shunts

Congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSS) are hepatic vascular anomalies which can affect any breed of dog or cat. Extrahepatic CPSS are most commonly observed in cats and small dogs, whereas intrahepatic CPSS are more likely to affect large breed dogs. A hereditary basis has been observed in some dog breeds. Affected animals are usually presented at young age with a variety of neurological, gastr...

Portosystemic shunts in dogs and cats: laboratory diagnosis of congenital portosystemic shunts

The most frequent laboratory abnormalities in patients with congenital portosystemic shunts (CPSS) are microcytosis, hypoglycemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypoproteinemia, increased liver enzyme activities, decreased blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and urate crystalluria. The microcytosis is probably due to impaired iron transport. Hypoglycemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypoproteinemia and decreased BUN are partly ...

Congenital Extrahepatic Portosystemic Shunts: Spectrum of Findings on Ultrasound, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Congenital extrahepatic portosystemic shunt (CEPS) is a rare disorder characterised by partial or complete diversion of portomesenteric blood into systemic veins via congenital shunts. Type I is characterised by complete lack of intrahepatic portal venous blood flow due to an end to side fistula between main portal vein and the inferior vena cava. Type II on the other hand is characterised by p...
